Shiba Shiba
Shiba Inus are just super adorable right? Well, to me they are. I love their coat of fur and just their look overall. Honestly, to me, they look like little foxes. The breed was originally bred to flush birds and small game and was occasionally used to hunt wild boar. Something interesting is that they are one of Japan’s six native breeds. There’s Akita (large), Kishu, Hokkaido, Kai, Shioku (medium) and Shiba (small). This dog is known for his spirited personality, small upright ears and cat-like ability. Today, they serve mainly as a companion dog in Japan and the US.
These dogs are great for people who live in apartments because they adjust well in small living areas. They also do well with being left at home alone for a while. Most of the time, they will just sleep around when they’re favorite show isn’t on. They are small dogs, roughly weighing around 20 lbs. They’re very athletic so playing fetch with them is easy and fun. But one thing to note, is that they are difficult to train because of their independence. They won’t always listen to their owners and can be stubborn when they want to. Taking them to the dog park is a good time for you and them. They are friendly with other dogs as well as humans. Always alert, they can be great watch dogs. They will bark when they see a robber.
Overall, Shiba Inus are great family dogs. They are very loyal and friendly and love to be affectionate. For people wanting to buy this breed, there are a few other things to know. Grooming is very minimal and isn’t really needed. Shiba Inus shed heavily only twice a year. It’s definitely important to have a home with a fenced backyard. As long as they have plenty of room to run around, they will be happy. They can sometimes be aggressive with other dogs so make sure they are always leashed when on a walk. They can be possessive with things like toys, food and turf. Shibas will act as the alpha male dog if they have to so it is very important to train them.
