Put a Corg in It

This week, we're gonna talk about Corgis. The reason why I chose to talk about this bread is because my friend is getting one soon, so it got me thinking, this is a great breed to write about. I absolutely love corgis. They're too cute with their little bodies and small short legs. Something that I didn't know about corgis is that there is two breeds of them. One breed is the Cardigan Welsh Corgi and the other one is called the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Welsh stands for "dwarf" dog. The differences between the two breeds is that the Cardigan is the older of the two breeds. He is distinguished by the long tail on his body. The Cardigan's medium-length coat comes in many colors and patterns, including red, brindle, blue merle and black, usually with white markings. For the Pembroke, their tails are docked. They are also the smallest between the two. They also have a narrow blaze on their head.

Corgis in general are great family pets. They are sure to please you if you feel down and give you lots of attention. They are known for being very happy and lovable. They are also very intelligent dogs as well. Their life span ranges from 12-14 years, so for a nice long time. They do shed frequent and need to be groomed occasionally.

There's a few things to note before owning a corgi. They are herding dogs which may be useful in farms. Also, since they are herding dogs, they like to be very active and to play. They are definitely the opposite of my dog. These dogs are fairly easy to train and respond quickly. Since they do shed a lot, its important to know if you'll be okay with that. Some people are okay with dogs that shed a lot, and for others, it can be too much. They also bark. Well, duh all dogs bark. But corgis tend to bark a lot. So get used to a not so silent home. Of course, every dog is different when barking. Some bark more than others. They do make excellent watchdogs, so that's something to know. Other than that, corgis are a great breed. They're loving and humble and will love you to death. If you are considering getting one, check a local pet store to see if they have some and maybe play for a little bit with them.

  1. Corgis are my favorite!!! I was not aware that there are two different breeds of corgi either, so that's good to know. I've always wanted a corgi and this blog post makes me want one even more. I appreciate that you listed several positive things about the breed, but also included some things that could be negative.

  4. This dog was in my top 5 before I got my pit bull puppy, but I also knew they tend to bark a lot and are very energetic in a new environment. Hopefully you will give me some tips on pit bull puppies and the right steps to help them learn.

  5. Great post! The last paragraph is a little choppy, maybe read back through it and see if you can make it smoother. Other than that, it was very informative and super cute! Corgis are so sweet. It's interesting that they are herding dogs, I feel like they would be smaller than the animals they're trying to herd. :)
